Should i watch fma or brotherhood first

Watch the original FMA so you can watch Brotherhood later and appreciate it for being better. They are both equally good, watch both but FMA first. This isn't even a contest. Watch Brotherhood first. Not only is it vastly superior to the anime, it's the story presented closest to the author's original intention. Arakawa Hiromu planned the ending of Fullmetal Alchemist before everything else, so the plot of Brotherhood makes a whole lot more sense.

Many people claim that the anime adapts the source material of the first part of the manga better, but it isn't that simple. Sure, some parts are done better, but most of it is dragged out with annoying filler because the producers wanted more episodes.

If you enjoy Brotherhood , you can go back to the anime and be amused at how a group of writers interpreted Arakawa's world from her early chapters, and how different the direction that the new story they made ended up. I can't believe no one mentioned the fact that brotherhood follows what the series had up until episode 13 and then derives into into the manga story line. That is episodes, you do the math of original completely new story details, that expands upon the FMA universe and its characters.

Personally i like brotherhood more because they go into great detail about the military and ishvalan war which are key elements to the core plot which were missing in the series. Other iconic characters like mustang, haweke, Bradley get far more attention in brotherhood then the series did. They are not just side show characters, they are true military veterans. That isn't to say that studio bones did a bad job on the show. It was its own original story, but FMAB is a much larger scale series, more characters, more story lines, and the ending probably has some of the most amazing action sequences seen in anime.

Another thing is the more modernized look in brotherhood, the characters are portrayed a little more realistically as far visual design and character personality, then the series shown. If you watch Brotherhood first, you will be disappointed from Fullmetal Alchemist. So watch FMA first, than Brotherhood :. Thanks for the info guys. You should watch Brotherhood first.

It will feel "stranger" watching it second as opposed to watching second which will feel more like a fanfic, not necessarily in a bad way though. Seems you've already decided though. I'll be watching both lol. My answer is watch the first FMA first and then if you feel unsatisfied of not knowing the rest of the story then watch brother hood next because they get through the story of the original in 13 episodes and there's about 60 all together.

If you only plan on watching one, go with Brotherhood. It's incredible! It also follows the manga, whereas the original anime doesn't because the manga wasn't completed during the time it was being made. That being said, I suggest watching FMA first, if you plan on watching both, because the first half of FMA is basically recreated in the first few episodes of Brotherhood, except FMA progresses at a much slower pace, and is a lot more detailed, so watching it before Brotherhood would be the way to go.

In comparison I'd say Brotherhood is a lot more epic and I enjoyed it more than the first, but they are both amazing and absolutely worth your time. That is why when something like FMAB which is rumored to stay pretty close to the menga comes out I always watch it first. That and I am not into menga so I don't read it and their are a lot of things that the author might have wished for me to known in a anime but the animators did not include.

That and I am interested in seeing how the animators would prefer the story to go, verses the author. I would also suggest watching FMAB first out of respect for the author and letting him get your "first impressions" of the entire story watch episodes of FMA first though because FMAB starts off right after that episode.

After that then watch FMA after because that doesn't stick as close to the menga as the author would have preferred. Also do it out of respect for the author and allowing his vision to have the "first impression" on you. My opinion: Brotherhood is bigger - more characters, more mythology scenes from the past and shows a bigger part of the country and political relations but sometimes it felt rushed.

Some characters are better done in fmab, some in fma - really depends on your favorites. Brotherhood has more comic and action moments, but fma is better paced. Watch both of them - each version has flaws and positives in comparison to the other, but they are both great. Watch brotherhood 1st. I think you should close your eyes and pick one to watch because whichever one you choose will set the standard for the next one if you are planning to watch both. Speaking from a biased point of view, i watched the original first then began to watch brotherhood at its release.

The original left a really good impression on me, the reason is due to the ending which i really liked i know many people hated it however because of its ambiguity. If you're not a fan of ambiguous endings i would recommend watch brotherhood.

Also many people say brotherhood excelled because it introduced a wide variety of supporting charac who made the story richer, but in my opinion most of them were pointless and dull. Sometimes i just wanted to skip a episode so i could watch more Ed and Al's story. I want to start watching Fullmetal alchemist , and while searching i noticed that there are 2 TV shows. Which one should i watch first? You clipped my wings and blamed me when i couldn't reach the stars.

Just watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, you can watch Fullmetal Alchemist after if you feel like it. I heard that FMA:B starts off with a filler episode so idk if it's exactly a faithful adaptation. If you're more into typical, cliche shonen with little emotional impact, and average writing, watch Brotherhood.

But if you watch it first, then the scenes both series share which had a lot more emotional impact in the first series, due to the fact that it wasn't squeezed into 10 episodes and made any death look like some fodder , then that experience will be lost, so I suggest watching the first one first. Make something connect to another, and you've got yourself a mastermind writer. What she tied, were plot-points that were extremely simple and linear to begin with. Nothing intricate. Hence the term "too shonen". Well you don't say, we know he's angry and vengeful, it's about execution. The started with in a terrifying way with losing the leg, that abomination, and fading to black, showing the anime's title with Ed's screams. The anime is slower-paced and more character-driven than the action-oriented series.

While both shows do a good job of developing characters and interspersing moments of calm with intense action scenes, FMA is best described as a drama.

Fma is anime original and is more dark while fmab is more like shounen but original story. Users questions. Is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood a sequel? The manga was still unfinished when the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime television show was airing.

It went in a different direction due to the fact that the anime was progressing faster than the source material. Brotherhood is overall a much more faithful adaptation to the source material. Its conclusion occurred around the same time as the manga was finishing up. The endings between the two animes are extremely different. With the original series ending with the underwhelming movie, many fans were disappointed with its conclusion.

There are a wealth of changes between the. It does provide a more complete experience, as the original anime spends more time developing its characters over the course of the episodes.
